Knoxville Harvest Program

Knoxville Harvest

Knoxville Harvest rescues prepared and perishable food that would otherwise be thrown away from local restaurants, schools and other sources in the community. This food is rapidly distributed to soup kitchens and other feeding agencies.

All rescued food is carefully inspected to be sure it is safe, nutritious and tasty. Our rule is “We will not deliver any food that we would not serve to our own family.”

This past year, Knoxville Harvest delivered an astounding 2,000,000 pounds of food, saving soup kitchens more than $2,500,000 by rescuing good food from being unnecessarily wasted and dumped into a landfill.

Many of these agencies are soup kitchens that feed the transient homeless population of Knoxville or provide shelter to victims of domestic violence. These agencies must be able to utilize the food quickly to prevent spoilage or have adequate freezer or cooler space to properly store the food. In most cases, the food is used long before it spoils.
