Abundant Life Kitchen

Abundant Life Kitchen

A job training which trains disenfranchised adults to gain the knowledge, hands-on experience and valuable life skills to acquire jobs in the food service industry.

People need more than just a nourishing meal; they need programs and services that will equip them with skills to acquire jobs and become independent. Valuable training for employment helps to ensure self-sufficiency and break the cycle of hunger.

A collaborative culinary arts program – Abundant Life Kitchen - is a job training program provided jointly between Second Harvest and Knox Area Rescue Ministries. This intensive, 16 week program includes classroom and hands on training in food handling and preparation. Students learn specific skills by studying under a chef. After completing the program, graduates are enrolled in a 4 week internship at a local business to gain experience as well as skills.

In just 2 years, Abundant Life Kitchen has graduated 28 students; each graduate has secured a meaningful, permanent job. We plan to graduate an additional 15 students in the coming year.
