Hunger 101

Hunger 101 offers information on hunger and poverty to groups. The program may be run on site or off site. It may be tailored to children, youth or adults. We encourage participation in our volunteer program as an element of Hunger 101.

Agencies

Second Harvest serves more than 350 non-profit agencies in 18 East Tennessee counties. Agencies provide assistance to those in need by distributing food boxes or baskets, or serving meals in soup kitchens or group homes to hungry people in their local area.

Programs

Food Drive Second Harvest provides several programs to eliminate hunger and its causes in our community. These programs are extensions of our traditional distribution service and reach out to people that can not be helped through typical food partner agencies.

Second Harvest also provides a variety of training classes to achieve independence. Some examples are: programs to improve the livelihood and learning potential of children and youth; programs for rural communities to receive large amounts of food at very low cost and many more. Featured Programs

Abundant Life Kitchen

A job training which trains disenfranchised adults to gain the knowledge, hands-on experience and valuable life skills to acquire jobs in the food service industry.

Mobile Pantry / Rural Route

These programs exist to make it easier for rural churches and organizations to receive food and personal care items. These programs make it possible to help the hungry in all of our 18 county community.

Food for Kids

Food for Kids is a collaborative effort between Second Harvest and area schools. Food for Kids provides backpacks filled with kid-friendly food to take home after school or on the weekends.

Kids Cafe

Kids Cafe provides after-school meals to disadvantaged children in a safe, accessible, and convenient environment. Kids Cafe nourishes the mind, as well as the belly, through learning activities about hunger and nutrition.

Knoxville Harvest

Knoxville Harvest rescues prepared and perishable food that would otherwise be thrown away from local restaurants, schools and other sources in the community. This food is rapidly distributed to soup kitchens and other feeding agencies.
