About Us
Hunger strikes 1 out of every 7 East Tennesseans. For nearly 245,000 people, the local soup kitchen or food pantry may be the only thing standing between them and the pain of hunger.
Second Harvest distributes food to roughly 125,000 hungry people every month through a network of Partner Agencies throughout East Tennessee. Agencies are non-profit organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry and include church pantries, shelters, group homes, local kitchens, after-school program sites, rehabilitation centers and many others.
Last year Second Harvest distributed enough food, through these agencies, to provide 7,865,000 meals to hungry East Tennesseans. Food is collected at our warehouse in Knoxville; inspected and then distributed to agencies.
We spend 3% of our budget on administrative expenses, 3% on fundraising and 94% on operating our programs. We can provide 4 nutritious meals with every $1 donated.
